HUNT REGAINS POINT LEAD AND HEADS FOR INDYUSAC Western States Sprint Car
Source: Tony Hunt Motorsports
Fair Oaks, Ca. Tony Hunt won the season opening event at Madera Speedway and looked to be off to a great start towards the USAC Western States Sprint Car 2000 Championship, but with two DNF's and three finishes out of the top ten due to mechanical problems his title hopes drastically changed. Approaching mid season, just five races ago, Hunt had fallen to the sixth spot in the points Championship trailing leader Davey Hamilton by over 100 points. In the last six races Hunt and the Pierson Racing / Wynn's Number Five Products #14 has rallied back to the top spot recording two wins, three poles and only one finish out of the top five. During the Series' inaugural Midwest Swing Hunt gained the most points and earned the most money. His two wins came at two new venues and inaugural events for the USAC Western States Sprint Cars, Dodge City Raceway Park, Dodge City, KS. and Meridian Motor Speedway, Boise, ID. He now is tied for the lead with Salt Lake City's Todd Ellison whom Hunt had trailed going in to the last event at the Rocky Mountain Raceway by 18 points. With five races remaining on the 2000 schedule Hunt can now see the Championship with a more realistic view. The Series will resume action on Sept. 2 at Tucson Raceway Park, Tucson, AZ.
This will give Hunt the opportunity to compete in other divisions. Hunt will
head East and run in the Dupont Automotive Finishes 100 USAC Silver Bullet
Event Aug. 2 televised live on ESPN2 at the Indianapolis Raceway Park. This
will be Hunt's second start in the USAC Silver Bullet Series driving the #81
Bar-D-Racing entry out of Boise, ID. He ran the opening event at the annual
Copper World Classic and wishes to compete in only one other event in 2000.
This will retain his "Rookie" status with the hopes of competing for the
"Rookie Of The Year" title in 2001. He will also fill in the break competing
in the USAC Western Sates Midget Series driving the Gary and Brian's Cars for
Less / George Zarounian owned #67. Hunt who made his initial start with this
famed team out of Visalia won the recent paved event at Madera Speedway.
