Late Models of the South West Dirt Racing Association headline the racing card at Canyon Speedway Park this Saturday night August 18th. The exotic looking full fender cars bring their brand of all out dirt track racing to the newly re-opened Canyon Speedway Park for the first of three remaining visits in 2007. The Late Model invasion will be led by point’s leader Lonnie Parker Jr who currently sits atop the SWDRA standings with a 132 point lead over rookie Tommy Hussak III. Following the youngster in the standings only six points back in third is perennial Canyon favorite Mark Fowler. A former Midget driver turned Dirt Modified Champion and now piloting the Jeff Manka owned Late Model Fowler will be looking for his second win of the season. Fowler’s previous 2007 win came during the SWDRA’s first visit to Canyon in May and local fans are looking forward to the possibility of another of his famous “roof dances” should the Canyon veteran win gain. So far in 2007 there have been 4 different SWDRA winners in the ten races run with Fowler picking up a single win, Lonnie Parker Jr with four wins, Adam Crippen with three wins and the most recent winner Karl Tipton rounding out the list with two main events to his credit. Along with the Late Models Canyon will have the Pure Stocks, Sport Mods, Bombers and the Outlaw Dwarf Cars. Gates open at 5:00pm with races getting the first green flag at 7:30pm. Admission prices are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors / military and children 10 and under always free. Canyon Speedway Park is located just south of the Carefree Highway off 99th Avenue in Peoria.
