FOUR CHAMPIONS TO BE CROWNED AT PERRIS THIS SATURDAY PERRIS, California -- Perris Auto Speedway will crown four PASSCAR division champions at the annual “Champion’s Night” this Saturday, November 10th. First place overall will be determined in the MC Builders Super Stocks, PASSCAR Modifieds & Street Stocks and the Pick-A-Part Cruisers. Gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 6:30. The popular Family Four pack will get Dad, Mom and two kids into the races for just $40.00 and they will get four hot dogs and four sodas.

Veteran Jack Dodd of Riverside, California, who was a champion at the long defunct Corona Raceway more than two decades ago, is poised to win his first ever PASSCAR championship in the MC Builders Super Stocks. Dodd, who won the last race in the series on September 22nd, leads defending champion Mark Shackelford, also of Riverside, by 38 points in the championship standings. Even with double points available, it would take a disaster for Dodd to lose the crown. Incidentally, the car Shackelford drives is owned by Dodd’s brother Jerry, who was another of the stars of the old Corona Raceway. Ed Perry of Carpenteria, California is third in the standings some 56-points off the pace.

Like Dodd, Apple Valley, California’s Randy Thornell is seeking to lock up his first ever PASSCAR title on Saturday night in the initial season of the PASSCAR Modified division. Thornell holds a 58-point advantage over another Corona Raceway alumnus, Johnny Lathrop of Riverside, heading into the season closer. The scenario for Lathrop in the Modfieds is the same one Shackelford faces in the in the Super Stocks. It would take a disaster for Thornell to not win the crown. him for the lead. Hemet’s Kevin Busher is 86-points off the pace in third place.

As is the case in the Super Stocks and Modifieds, Moreno Valley, California’s Curtis Dietzsch, is seeking his first PASSCAR Street Stock championship and is way ahead of the competition. With Saturday’s showdown looming, the affable driver is 67 points ahead of second place driver Jim Coates from Riverside. Like the two leaders in the previously mentioned classes, it would almost take Dietzsch missing the race for a change at the top. However, there could be a change for second as Huntington Beach, California’s Hap Vertich is just one point behind Coates in the standings.

The Riverside duo of Tom & Jeff Gillum are close to their first ever PASSCAR title in the Pick-A-Part Cruiser class. They lead the Riverside team of Donny Fengler and Phil Holms by 72 points with only Saturday’s race remaining. They are the only teams with a mathematical chance to win the crown.

The Art’s Concrete Pumping Extreme Late Models would normally be in action on Saturday, but promoter Don Kazarian moved their title race to the Jack Kindoll Classic on November 17th so many of the drivers could race this Saturday at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Arizona.
