![]() SPANAWAY, Washington -- The Limited Late Model Racing Series closed out its first season of competition, crowning its inaugural champion. The 2007 racing season brought with it a new racing series based around stock clip Late-Models, providing a touring series for teams running on a slightly smaller budget. The newly formed series held seven events at tracks across Washington & Oregon averaging 12 cars per event. The #10 Northwest Door / Drain Tech Northwest / Hi-Tech Collision / Cope Bro’s Monte Carlo of John Boyatt would jump start the new series with a win in its inaugural event held at Ephrata Raceway Park in Ephrata, Washington. Boyatt wasted no time setting the bar that the other drivers would need to reach by not only winning the main event, but setting fast time for the night as well. After a solid run in the first race, the #71 Affordable Clutch & Brake / Fast Undercar Monte Carlo of Chris Schlaht returned to what was his home track for the second race, held at Race City USA in Hermiston, Oregon. Schlaht would go on to match the bar previously set by Boyatt, setting fast time for the night and rolling away with the win in the main event. Race three saw the new series competing at Spokane Raceway Park in Spokane, Washington. It looked as though the fortunes would reverse again as the #10 Northwest Door / Drain Tech Northwest / Hi-Tech Collision / Cope Bro’s Monte Carlo of John Boyatt grabbed fast time and looked poised to take the win. But as fast as things seemed to change in this new series, it was never a lock. Oregon native Brad Stanwood would have the final say here, putting his #20 B&M Engine Service Monte Carlo in victory lane denying Boyatt the win. Reaching the half way point for the new series, the competitors met at Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, Oregon for race four. This event would be held as a challenge event with the DCS Late Models. Local hero Bobby Wright would use his home track advantage to roll off fast time of the night as well as the win. LLMRS regulars Boyatt and Schlaht continued to fight it out for the series points lead, trading the points lead back and forth after almost every race. Race five would be competed on the newly resurfaced Port Angeles Speedway in Port Angeles, Washington. In a heart breaking season that had yet to produce a finish, the #68 Mauritson Enterprises / KMB Design Groups Grand Prix of “Terrible” Tim McDougald laid down the law during qualifying, letting his fellow competitors know he would not give up. But still, this series was becoming known for quick changes in fortune, and it would not be McDougald’s day. After a broken driveline left the #68 Grand Prix on pit road, John Boyatt would roll on to sweep the rest of the event winning the trophy dash, heat race and main event, dedicating the performance to his recently departed Grandfather. Returning to Spokane Raceway Park for race six, the LLMRS regulars were given their first event on a track they had already seen. Expanding on the small amount of momentum found in Port Angeles, the #68 Mauritson Enterprises / KMB Design Groups Grand Prix of “Terrible” Tim McDougald grabbed the trophy dash win in front of Boyatt’s #10 Northwest Door / Drain Tech Northwest / Hi-Tech Collision / Cope Bro’s Monte Carlo. But the main event win would be taken by local driver Marc Oergel with Boyatt close on his heals. Boyatt would move farther ahead in the points lead, putting the clamp on the top spot for good at this point. The final event of the season would be held on a return trip to Port Angeles Speedway where Boyatt would put an exclamation point on this inaugural championship by setting fast time and dominating the main event for the win leaving no doubt about his championship run. Boyatt and the #10 Northwest Door/ Drain Tech Northwest / Hi-Tech Collision / Cope Bro’s team ended the season with one dash win, five top-5’s and four main event wins after being credited with the win from race six, where Oergel’s car did not meet all the LLMRS rules. Looking forward to the 2008 season, the #10 Northwest Door / Drain Tech Northwest / Hi-Tech Collision / Cope Bro’s Monte Carlo of Boyatt Racing will be returning to defend their inaugural championship title in what looks to be a highly contested series. With the inaugural season ending with the top three drivers separated by less than 50 points and the new series drawing a lot more interest from other drivers in the area, Boyatt will have his work cut out for him defending his championship in 2008. However, Boyatt Racing will be up to the challenge having already set the mark all others will be trying to reach. The LLMRS will be returning to Ephrata Raceway Park for the season opener, kicking off the 2008 season the same as the inaugural season. Looking to pick up a few new tracks as well as returning to some of the same venues, the 2008 season looks to bring added excitement to one of the most competitive series in the Northwest. Be sure to catch this “can’t miss” series at a track near you during the 2008 season.
