As the Sprint Cup series opened it’s season with the Daytona 500 last weekend, a total of 4 previous open-wheel drivers made their first starts. Although their performances weren't what some had expected, many still believe that success is inevitable despite the steep learning curve. One person that believes that open wheel drivers could handle the weight of a 2900 pound racecar is High Point Racing team owner, Tim Huddleston. Huddleston recently signed former Champ Car driver Colin Fleming to pilot the #55 Auto Club Late Model car.

Fleming will join the Justice Brothers sponsored team in order to gain experience which he hopes will catapult him to the Camping World West Series next year. Fleming’s long time sponsor King Taco Restaurants has also joined in the effort to launch Colin’s new stock car racing career.

Colin started racing when he was nine years old. His father, who owned a go-kart shop allowed Colin to drive and he has been hooked ever since. While racing karts from 1993 to 2001, Fleming earned ten national championships and ten IKF, region 7 Championships.

His full size open-wheel accomplishments include winning the Rookie of the Year title while finishing third in the Formula Renault Championship in 2004. As a member of Red Bull’s Junior team, Colin drove the 2005 season in the World Series of Renault series for Jenzer Motorsports. In 2006, he moved to Carlin Motorsports and earned an impressive fourth place finish at the Monaco Grand Prix. It was opportunities in America’s Champ Car series that would land Colin back in the states driving for Gelles Racing.

“Colin’s got an impressive resume in some of open-wheels toughest series‘. I am confident that we can ease the learning curve and get Colin up to speed in a stock car immediately,” owner Tim Huddleston said.

“I am very pleased to be driving for High Point Racing in 2008! When I made the decision to point my career towards stock cars, High Point Racing was the only option for me. I know the team will continue to set standards this season and I look forward to learning from some of the best in the business”. Colin Fleming stated. “While I may be new to the category, I hope that my experience in formula cars will translate into a successful season, a run at the championship is in my goals”.

High Point Racing competes in the Auto Club Late Model Series at Irwindale Speedway. Primarily sponsored by Justice Brothers Car Care Products, the team fields Racecar Factory built late models powered by Liz-Zard Racing Engines.
