DOUBLE POINTS AND DOUBLE ACTION AT THE LUCAS OIL I 10 SPEEDWAY THIS SATURDAY.LUCAS OIL I-10 SPEEDWAY
Source: Dave Grayson
![]() Two double points main events are expected to double the racing action this Saturday night when the Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway drops the green flag on its March 1st edition of their Winter Blast Series at the quarter mile paved oval located at the Colorado River Fairgrounds in Blythe-California. The double points action involves the speedway's Budweiser Modified and Torco Racing Fuel Street Stock divisions. Also seeing action Saturday night will be the Lucas Oil Factory Stocks. Racing fans will also be treated to a special visit by the Western Racing Association and their field of antique open wheel cars. The Budweiser Modifieds will be making their fourth appearance in the 2007-2008 Winter Blast season and the results of a double points feature could seriously impact a championship battle that's already really tight. Jimmy Dickerson, who won the last race on February 16th, leads the division standings with 142 points. Chris Gerchman, who is certainly no stranger to the I 10 Speedway's victory lane, is second in the standings just six points behind the leader. Still very much in the picture is the always rock steady Billy Johanneck who is third in the standings with 116 points. Never to be overlooked is the presence of Jason Patison who has already has two feature wins this season. Patison is fourth in the rankings, 42 points behind the leader, but that's only because he missed the February 16th feature. Patison is always a threat to win a modified race at any track he drives on.
The Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway has always presented an outstanding street stock program which traditionally features skin tight points battles and the current Winter Blast Series is no exception. Looking at the Torco Racing Fuel Street Stock ranking the top six drivers are only separated by a mere 12 points. Expect drivers Bryant Suttefield and Danny Dill to go after each other Saturday night. They are currently tied for the points lead with 260 points each. Two points behind them is D J Lonie in third while Dusty Hope is fourth in the standings only eight points behind the leaders. Not to be overlooked here are the presence of drivers Brian Crawford and Richard Selph who are tied for fifth, at 248, and just 12 points away from the leaders. Any combination of good and bad racing luck during a double points feature could make this skin tight race even more interesting.
The Lucas Oil Factory Stocks are always a fan favorite at the Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway with their high flying, racing is rubbing, antics. John Lowrence leads the division standings going into Saturday night with 106 points but he's only eight points ahead of Kenny Foster who be looking for his second feature win in a row. Also factors in the division points standings are Gabe Carter, 97 points, Jim Burrow, 90, and Dean Lester, 89.
Another one of the big highlights this Saturday night will be a special appearance by the WRA, Western Racing Association, with their perfectly preserved antique open wheel race cars. A non profit organization, the WRA is dedicated to the preservation and racing of open wheel cars from the 1930's to the 1950's. Many of the association's members are long time veterans from the national hey day of midget racing in this country. Often referred to as a "moving museum", these cars run as good as they look. The organization is also extremely fan friendly and the drivers love to meet the fans and talk to them about their cars.
The spectator gates will open this Saturday afternoon at 4 pm with the racing getting underway at 6 pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors 55 plus, military and the handicapped. Kids tickets are $5 for ages 13 to 17, $3 for ages 6 to 12 while kids five and under are admitted free. There's also the family package for $20 which admits two adults and two kids 17 and under.
