INDYCAR SERIES TO MAKE RETURN TO INFINEON RACEWAY IN 2009SONOMA, California – Infineon Raceway will host the IndyCar Series for a fifth consecutive year in 2009, making the Sonoma Valley venue the only facility in the country to host every major form of motor-racing in the country.

The race will maintain its traditional late-summer date and will be held on Sunday, Aug. 23. Infineon Raceway will be one of just three permanent road-course venues on the 18-race IndyCar schedule for 2009, joining Watkins Glen International and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

In addition to open-wheel racing, Infineon Raceway also hosts the best in stock cars (NASCAR Sprint Cup Series), drag racing (NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series), sports cars (Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series) and motorcycles (American Motorcyclist Association).

“We are thrilled to host every major form of motor-racing in this country and delighted to bring open-wheel racing back to the Sonoma Valley in 2009,” said Steve Page, president and general manager of Infineon Raceway. “Open-wheel racing is enjoying tremendous growth with the recent unification of IndyCar and Champ Car, and we are excited about the future.”

Infineon Raceway hosted its first IndyCar Series event in 2005, marking the return of major open-wheel racing to the Sonoma Valley for the first time in 35 years (1970). Tony Kanaan took the checkers in 2005, and has been followed by Marco Andretti (2006) and Scott Dixon (2007).

This year’s event, the PEAK Antifreeze & Motor Oily Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma County, will be held Aug. 22-24. For ticket information, call 800-870-RACE or visit www.infineonraceway.com.
