BALDWIN PARK, Ca — Sometimes, in racing, there are weekends you'd like to forget, for Position One Motorsports this was one of those weekends. With 3 more races left in the NASCAR ACDelco Super Late Model series competition at the TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale, the team and its driver Luis Martinez Jr were looking forward competing hard and improve their overall points standings. Unfortunately in racing the best laid plans are not always what ends up happening and for this weekends Twin-40 lap races this was certainly the case.

Qualifying: During an earlier practice session Martinez began shaking down the # 03 KING TACO car and with the track slicker than it appeared the car quickly got loose going into turn # 3. The result was a hard impact into the wall barrier which damaged the car beyond repair for the weekend. The only option for the team was to prepare the team's backup car. With only a few hours between the practice and qualifying sessions the team was unable to make the necessary changes to get the car ready for qualifying.

Race 1: Despite their diligent efforts in 90 degree plus temperatures and under a baking Sun, the team was unable to get the backup # 03 KING TACO machine prepared for Race # 1.

Race 2: Trying to salvage the remnants of the weekend the team was ready to try their luck for Race # 2. Lining up in the 20th spot Martinez took the green flag and immediately passed Matthew Eshleman (#66-So Cal Wraps & Graphics). Disaster once again raised its ugly head for the team during the second lap. The plum of smoke emitting from Martinez's car confirmed the teams worst fears and sealed their fate. Forced to end the race, the team regrouped back at the garage area and further inspection revealed that it was an engine failure that ended their race. Martinez's official finishing spot was twenty-first.

Randel King had a mixed night. Heading into the weekend King was looking to improve his 10th point standings and Rookie of the Year award chances. For Race #1 King, starting sixth, raced strong and was able to grab fourth; his best finish of the year. King's second race was marred in controversy as he was forced to start at the end of the grid after NASCAR officials penalized him for a tire change which was as a result of a miscommunication between officials and the crew. The matter was further complicated when officials disqualified King's team at the end of the race.

In the 2008 Championship standings both Martinez and King took a hit. Martinez is now 14th with 372 points while King slid to 12th with 384.

Position One Motorsports will compete again on September 6th when the eighteenth and nineteenth races of the NASCAR ACDelco Super Late Model series are scheduled to occur.

Luis Martinez Jr – Driver: “ Today was a very unfortunate event for myself and the Position One Motorsports team. Despite our best efforts things just did not go our way. I am proud of our team, that despite our misfortunes, this weekend they gave 110% and never wavered in their dedication. I want to thank our sponsors King Taco and Molecule for their continued support. I'm looking forward to getting past this and finishing off our season strongly.”

Larry Nava – Crew Chief: “It was a disappointing weekend for sure but I give credit to the team. No one hung their heads, instead, they continued to work hard and tried to salvage whatever we could of the weekend but in the end it was just not our weekend. These things will happen when you race and we just have to move beyond this and continue to progress."

Luis Martinez – Owner: “It was unfortunate that the weekend had to end on such a bad note. The team has been working very hard in getting our cars ready, especially on such an important weekend. I left happy knowing that our team can work relentlessly to make sure that we make the show, unfortunately this is not what we wanted to bring home. Our next race is in two weeks and we plan to come back fighting! ”
