![]() SNOHOMISH, Wash — Defending ARCA West Late Model Challenge Series champion, Gary Lewis, heads to the NAPA Auto Parts Labor Day Spectacular at Yakima Speedway with hopes of returning to victory circle after a sub-par night August 9 at South Sound Speedway. The three-time late model touring champion was involved in an incident early in the Miller 200 that caused significant damage to his Victory Circle chassis. After a long month of work in the shop to make repairs, Lewis is ready to see how the Sunbelt Rentals Chevrolet will react to the repairs and improvements. “We are very confident that everything will be just fine with our Impala,” Lewis said. “It’s been a lot of hard work but the car is in tip-top shape and ready to get back on the track. We repaired our chassis and suspension damage and are eager to go for two wins in two races this weekend.” Lewis has taken the season off from battling for points championships while focusing on winning several of the Northwest’s premier regional events including back to back Montana and Idaho 200 victories in July and early August. Should the Frontline Securities team capture a top-3 run in the Saturday’s ASA Northwest Touring event, Lewis could end the year with a third place or better finish in that series points standings. “Well we are not running for any points finish that’s for sure but if we happen to fall into a top-3 then that would be pretty cool considering we haven’t run all of their races,” Lewis noted. “We did miss a few earlier in the year but plan to run Saturday and then the finale at Evergreen Speedway on September 20. Points haven’t been on our mind at all for any series but the results of our work have gotten us into those positions which is a testament to the hard work of this Sign Factory USA crew.” September is a big month for Lewis’ race team as the ARCA West race in Wenatchee on September 13 and the Evergreen event lead to Yakima Speedway’s annual Fall Classic-a race that the Snohomish, Wash. driver would like to add to his resume. “The two races we’re running this weekend will be testing for the Fall Classic. We feel that the race owes us one after we broke while having a great run last year. We had won the Race of Champions and then the Limited Late Model race and were looking good in the Classic until we broke there late in the race. We definitely want to win that one real bad,” Lewis said. To sweep the ASA Tour race and the ARCA race in the same weekend would be icing on the cake, he added. “That would be huge if we could do that, however, that’s a tremendous challenge to win both. We will go out and do our best of course and see what happens.” Racing gets underway at Yakima Speedway on August 30 with the running of the NAPA 125 with Sunday’s NAPA 150 set for the ARCA West Late Model Challenge Series. ![]() See Also .: News Index | E-mail to a Friend Article posted by RacingWest.com staff on 08/27/2008. http://www.racingwest.com
