YAKIMA, Washington — Mike Longton’s name was mentioned a lot over the three day 21st Annual Fall Classic. Winning all three days with authority Longton showed that his 2008 Yakima Speedway Late Model Championship was for real. Longton took home the big prize on Sunday with a win of the $10,000.00 to win 200-lap Fall Classic following his wins on Saturday and Friday. Almost $20,000.00 is what Longton received for his three days of racing on the fabled .500-mile oval at Yakima Speedway. BJ Tidrick finished second ahead of Travis Bennett">Travis Bennett.

Longton as he did in the previous two events was never headed and won fairly easily on Sunday. The only car to pass Longton all weekend was Erick Hargraves and that was undone with a restart of the 200-lap main. Starting on the pole for the start Longton only had one brief scare when Tidrick tried a move on a restart on lap 101. Tidrick tried the outside and looked like he would make a pass. Longton protecting his position was able to thwart the pass.

Twenty Nine cars took the green for the 21st Annual Fall Classic Late Model Main. Accidents and mechanical problems plagued over half the field. Longton lapped all but the top 5. Also finishing on the lead lap was Jay Sauls and Shelby Thompson.

A record 39 Street Stocks took the green for the start of the 75-lap main held prior to the Fall Classic Main. The 2008 Yakima Speedway Street Stock Champion Brian Pepper bested the large field. Buck Noel jr. was second and Mike Easley was third. Pepper was last year’s winner. Easley was emotional and jubilant finally making it to the podium for the first time in twenty tries at the Fall Classic.
