UPLAND, California — The excitement certainly hasn’t dropped any since the last race at I-10 Speedway among the ASA Speed Truck Challenge drivers after seeing the largest purse in the history of the twelve year old series being handed out post race. “With the infusion of $50,000 in VERVE! Purse Funds for the last three races,” says ASA STC president Jay Rutherford, “our drivers are more excited about racing than ever.” “That excitement will carry through to Havasu 95 Speedway in Havasu, CA on October 18th and then our season finale at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale on October 25th.” The last race saw two-time ASA STC champion Darren Young in the #18 United Nissan / Sudden Impact Chevy S-10 take another impressive win to boost his overall points’ lead to 110 going into the last two races. “I knew we had it in us,” said an enthusiastic Young. “Many thanks to my great team for putting together a truck that ran better than ever. We are ready to take another championship for United Nissan,” finished Young. The 43-year-old veteran driver had a lot to smile about as he proudly flashed the $2,000 in winner’s circle greenbacks for the cameras and the television broadcast. VERVE!, the Insanely Healthy Energy drink out of Scottsdale, Arizona has certainly energized the drivers with this season-ending purse offer, but more importantly has endorsed the ASA STC as where they want to be in 2009 with a major partnership that will see even more financial participation for next season. “Ever since the announcement of our VERVE! Motorsports Economic Stimulus Program, drivers in the ASA STC have been actively participating in a dynamic program, never-before witnessed in motorsports, that enables every team to drive major sponsor dollars into their racing budgets,” said Rutherford. “This is going to revolutionize the way racers of all types are able to afford their fun on the track and we are so happy that VERVE! has decided to be the primary catalyst for this remarkable program.” As the ASA STC rolls into Havasu 95 Speedway, the real race for championship points is for second place. With Todd McLauchlan #38 Institutional Cabinets & Millwork / ULTRA Boats Toyota Tacoma being disqualified at I-10 last race due to a bent throttle linkage and resulting crash; it leaves the door open for the next two competitors with only 13 points separating the three teams. The two hard-charging drivers of Jason Black, #9 Golden Lane Ventures / Empire Power Systems Chevy S-10 and Dallas Colodny, ExtremeWrench.com / Atlantis Casino Dodge Dakota are not going to give any easy ground as they vow to take at least the #2 spot. “This is what we’ve been working for all season,” said a determined Colodny. “McLauchlan and Black are great drivers and we will put on a show for the fans.” he finished smiling. The final two races at Havasu and Irwindale will be taped for national television, increasing the drama surrounding the already exciting finish to this, another great season for Rutherford and his officials. Despite how the media talks about the economy, the ASA STC series is showing that they can turn out great racing and drive needed funds for their race teams through the Verve! opportunity.
