OUTLAW FIGURE 8 WEST COAST CHAMPIONSHIP AND OTHER “UNIQUE” RACING ACTIVITIES HIGHLIGHT SATURDAY’S NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION FAMILY NIGHT AT TOYOTA SP

IRWINDALE, California — Five races including the Pick Your Part Outlaw Figure 8 West Coast Championship highlight this Saturday’s (October 25) Night of Destruction Family Night at TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale. Youngsters 15 years of age and under will be admitted for free to the event which includes season finales for the Pure Stocks and ASA Speed Truck Challenge divisions as well as Train and Trailer races.

Some of Figure 8 racing’s top competitors from California, Oregon and Washington will compete in a one-hour race featuring a cash purse of $10,000 with a $5,000 payout to the winner. Steve Stewart of Long Beach leads the division standings with 340 points including an eight point lead over second place Barefoot Billy Ziemann of Bloomington. Stewart will attempt to clinch his second consecutive Pick Your Part Outlaw Figure 8 championship and third in the last four years. If Ziemann prevails, it will be his first division crown.

Going into Saturday night’s final race of the Pure Stocks season, only 40 points separate the top three positions in the division standings. Tommy Agosta of Chino leads the points chase with 592 points including a 12 point lead over Chad Kelly of Calabasas (580 points). Mathematically eligible is Mike Colato, Jr. of Chatsworth who is in third place with 552 points trailing Agosta by 40 points. The three drivers have never won a division championship.

The ASA Speed Truck Challenge will close out its season on Saturday night. With Darren Young having clinched his third series championship, attention will be directed toward runner-up honors with five drivers in contention. Todd McLauchlan currently occupies second place with 676 points. Jason Black is in third place with 669 points and trails McLauchlan by only seven points. Dallas Colodny is in fourth place with 663 points and is 13 points off of the pace. Also mathematically eligible are rookie Paul Bonaccorsi in fifth place with 629 points and Jeff Catlin in sixth place with 617 points.

Two races highlighting the Night of Destruction portion of the event include the always entertaining Train and Trailer races. The Train race features teams of three cars connected together competing on the Speedway’s figure 8 course. The front car includes the driver responsible for steering and controlling the throttle, the middle car is unoccupied while the driver in the rear car controls the brakes. The Trailer race is scheduled to take place on the one-third mile oval and is open to any vehicle make and model but must be configured to the Speedway’s Demolition Derby competition rules.
