RACE FOR 2008 CHAMPION CLINCHED, BUT TOP TEN SPOTS ARE ANYTHING BUT DONE FOR ASA SPEED TRUCK CHALLENGE

UPLAND, California — After lots of speculation about what might happen at the next to last ASA Speed Truck Challenge race at Havasu 95 Speedway on Saturday evening, two-time champion, Darren Young in the #18 United Nissan / Sudden Impact Chevy S-10 closed the book on his 3rd Championship by starting the race in the pole position and finishing a smooth 2nd to his teammate, 15-year-old Chris Buescher in another United Nissan / Sudden Impact S-10, from Prosper, Texas. Although the official announcement will be withheld by president, Jay Rutherford until after this week’s final race at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale; mathematically, Young has officially clinched the coveted West Coast 2008 championship spot Saturday night. Holding up his $1,200 second-place prize money after the race, you could see the extreme elation and pleasure in his face knowing that the championship was finally his. “I couldn’t be more proud of the effort that the whole United Nissan team has given me this season. This series is incredibly hard to win with all the excellent drivers and teams that it has participating now and, I don’t care who you are, but without great sponsors and an even greater crew, we couldn’t have pulled it off like we did this season,” said Young in the winner’s circle. As most ASA STC fans remember, it was a young 16-year-old, Victor Pfluger that robbed Young of his third championship right here at Havasu 95 Speedway one year ago and became the youngest ASA Speed Truck Challenge champion in the history of the series. “Thanks to VERVE! and all our STC partners that support us so much. This is an excellent series and I’ve been proud to be a part of its history,” concluded Young.

The Winner’s Circle was all smiles again as the Top Five drivers enjoyed receiving a large portion of the $15,000 purse, which came after a VERVE! partnership and a Motorsports Stimulus Program were announced placing $50,000 into the driver’s purse for the last three races of the 2008 season. The winner, Buescher, proudly held up his $2,000 and commented that it would probably just go back into his racing. The young Buescher is of course happy that he received the call again from the United Nissan team to come race in the last three races of the season. Buescher continues to light up the track all across the country as the number one warm-up driver for every NASCAR David Regan’s cup car race and is also personally involved in at least 50 Legends races per year. Since coming to the STC in 2008, having never been in the powerful and hard to handle Speed Trucks, Buescher has started four times; winning three and taking second in the fourth.

After a slight rearrangement in the order from the last race, this week saw Todd McLauchlan stay in second place, driving with the flu, Dallas Colodny moved into third and Jason Black fell back to the fourth spot. Despite the position change between Colodny and Black, the same thirteen points separate these three great drivers for the championship’s second position. “No matter how they finish,” said Rutherford, “none should be disappointed as there are all top-notch, quality drivers and people in the STC.” “All the families represented this season are some of the best in the industry and the closeness of the times in each of the race finishes are proof of their exemplary talent,” finished Rutherford.

The official 2008 ASA STC Championship crowning and the exciting run for the Top Five takes place at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale on Saturday, October 25th. This will also be the final televised taped race for ASA STC in 2008. For more information on the Speed Truck Challenge or VERVE! call 866-873-7615 or jay@speedtruck.com.
