NASCAR

Kimi Räikkönen made his debut in NASCAR back in 2011. And in 2022, the NASCAR Trackhouse Racing team showed the car’s livery on which the driver would have raced in the NASCAR Cup Series championship at the Watkins Glen stage in August. The former Formula 1 driver said the following statement about this news:

“After my debut in 2011, I have repeatedly said that I enjoyed racing in NASCAR. These are old-school races, and modern motorsport’s general stages are unlike anything else. The atmosphere there is relaxed. And it’s also great that the new cars are more like GT and equipped with a sequential gearbox. Trackhouse Racing hoped that I would run two or three races this year, but in the end, we settled on one.”

Räikkönen performed very well in the race. However, he encountered an unfortunate incident involving multiple cars at the onset of the third leg. Initially, Kimi maintained a position in the Top 10 during a significant portion of the second segment. Then after the pit stop, he lost several places but managed to regain some ground following the pit stops of the leading drivers. Unfortunately for the Finn, his race ended prematurely on lap 46 due to an off-track excursion resulting in a collision with the barrier.

Formula 1 has made clear its intention to move towards greater calendar regionalisation, reducing logistical burdens and making the season more sustainable.

By moving Japan to April, Azerbaijan to September and Qatar back-to-back with Abu Dhabi, this calendar creates a better flow of races in certain regions, and this work will continue while being realistic to the fact that as a world championship, with climatic and contractual constraints, there will always be travel required that cannot be completely regionalised.

For the opening two races of the season in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, the Grand Prix will take place on a Saturday. This decision has been taken to accommodate Ramadan.

‘I need to do better’ – Exclusive interview with Nyck de Vries

Facebook Twitter LinkedInReddit Email
Nyck de Vries made an anstonishing debut in Formula 1 last year at the Italian GP, after Alex Albon was diagnosed with appendicitis and taken to hospital for surgery. De Vries scored two points, which equals Williams’ best result of the season. Alpha Tauri driver Nyck de Vries speaks exclusively to Paddock Magazine ahead of the Austrian GP in Spielberg.

You had a fantastic debut with Williams last year, finishing P9 and being voted driver of the day. Do you think this achievement resulted in unrealistic expectations?

Well, that’s an excellent question… Actually, there are always expectations in life, regardless of what you do. As we live in a competitive industry, we always need to perform. Perhaps, that race set the expectations even higher. However, I have no regrets because I wouldn’t be here today without that race in Italy. That’s how things go; normally, the expectations are very high in this category.

Obviously, there are some rumours concerning your future in the team. How could you evaluate your performance so far this year?

I’m unsatisfied with what I’ve shown on the track. I need to do better, for sure. There were moments when I put on a great performance. For example, the race weekend in Barcelona was good if you look at it as a whole. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to score points. It was a shame that I spun twice and lost two sets of tyres in Q1. However, I still managed to get to Q2 after finishing the first part of qualifying in eighth position. It was a weekend where I should’ve scored points. I also missed some opportunities at other race weekends. That’s how it is; that’s life. You win, you lose, and you have good and bad weekends. I try to do better, and that’s it. I need to do my best all the time.

I need to do better.

Nyck de Vries

You race alongside Yuki Tsunoda, who has more experience in F1. What is the teamwork like with him?

We have a great mutual respect for each other. We’ve known each other for a few years. On the other hand, good relationships don’t happen overnight. We’re different characters, and I’m in a different stage in my life and career. We greatly respect each other; he’s a good guy and a very talented driver. He performs very consistently, and he’s swift. He’s shown a pretty strong performance this year.

Despite an action-packed encounter at the Red Bull Ring that saw several drivers penalised over track limits and strategies differ – Verstappen one of few drivers to stay out during an early Virtual Safety Car period – the Dutchman could not be stopped en route to his fifth win on the bounce, and seventh of the season.

Leclerc briefly led the way after taking advantage of the VSC, but he fell back behind Verstappen as the pair worked through their opposing tyre plans, and the Red Bull showed its raw pace – underlined by a late and successful bid for the fastest lap bonus point.

Different angle for a change

Facebook Twitter LinkedInReddit Email

I was asked recently by one of my young mentoring clients what was the first race car that I had driven on a race circuit, where it had been, and when.

He was quite surprised when I had no difficulty recalling the occasion, albeit it was more than 50 years ago. It sticks in my mind because what should have been an exciting experience for me actually turned into one of the most unpleasant. As to the type of car, that too is etched on my mind for all the wrong reasons.

Visiting the annual Racing Car Show was a must ever since I had gone to the British GP at Brands in 1968 and watched Jo Siffert do the business! In those days, the Show was held in London, and I think it was 1971 when Olympia was the venue. I know Grand Prix World Champion Sir Jack Brabham opened it. As I was walking down one of the crowded aisles, a guy in a racing suit stopped me and asked if I would like to try the F3 simulator. It turned out to be F1 driver Trevor Taylor. He told me that the person with the fastest lap time of the day would earn a free trial at Motor Racing Stables, the Brands Hatch-based racing school.

It didn’t start very well! The large wooden steering wheel came off in my hands… To call this old F3 race car chassis with a screen balanced on the front of it, today’s generation of e-sporters would laugh at a simulator, but to me, it was the bee’s knees.

The STR11 is the standout from the first online auction; the same car that raced in the 2016 season when Scuderia Toro Rosso scored 63 points thanks to the achievements of its drivers Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz and Daniil Kvyat. Jos Pirkner’s painted bull on the engine cover was the first seen on any F1 livery, giving the car an artistic and dynamic look.

Tsunoda outshines Verstappen in mega truck race

Facebook Twitter LinkedInReddit Email

In a delightfully unexpected detour leading up to the Austrian Grand Prix, Yuki Tsunoda, Japan’s rising star, claimed an impressive victory over double Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen in an exhilarating mega truck race held at the formidable Erzberg mine. Here’s all you need to know:

The win backs up Yuki’s victory during May’s Miami Grand Prix week, where he downed Australia’s Daniel Ricciardo in a mini jet boat race. The series sees Scuderia AlphaTauri and Oracle Red Bull Racing go head-to-head in unique vehicles and locations.

The event was a part of the (Un)Serious Race Series, where teams from Scuderia AlphaTauri and Oracle Red Bull Racing embrace the unpredictable, trading their usual high-tech Formula 1 cars for, in this case, mega truck race. These monolithic machines, three meters tall, five meters long, and with a heart-stopping 500 horsepower, provided a unique challenge for the racers.

Set against the awe-inspiring backdrop of the operational Erzberg mine, known as the ‘Iron Giant’, the race was as much about the stunning location as it was about the fearsome vehicles. The track was a whimsical interpretation of the Red Bull Ring, boasting three key areas: ‘The Car Yard’, ‘The Swimming Pool’ and ‘The Big Drift’.

Alexander Rossi brings valuable experience to McLaren

Facebook Twitter LinkedInReddit Email

Alexander Rossi is one of the most recognizable names in racing circles, with the 31-year-old having achieved a whole lot behind the wheel to date.

The California native joined the Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team for the 2023 season last June and the team will be all the better for the acquisition as he brings a wealth of experience.

Rossi won the Indianapolis 500 in 2016 as a rookie, a remarkable feat. Having begun his career in the U.S., he moved to Europe, where he won four races in the developmental GP2 series for both EQ8 Caterham Racing and Racing Engineering.

He made his Formula One debut in 2015 after a role as a test and development driver for Caterham F1 and Marussia F1. He finished a season-best 12th driving in five Grand Prix in America.

He would return to the US to race in the IndyCar Series, winning the Indy 500 in 2016, as mentioned above. Still, his 2019 and 2019 campaigns have been his most successful as he finished second and third, respectively, in the Drivers’ Championship.

Why choose a used Mercedes-Benz: luxury and performance at a great value

Facebook Twitter LinkedInReddit Email

When thinking about a “good car”, to many people it is the Mercedes-Benz that first comes to mind. Indeed, over the long years of existence, the merits of Mercedes cars have been repeatedly proven. Today these cars are one of the best embodiments of comfort, reliability, and style. Whether you are looking for a new car or a used one, Mercedes-Benz is sure to give you an unforgettable driving experience.

Over the years, the brand has built a reputation for producing some of the most iconic and high-performance vehicles on the market. From elegant design to advanced features, there are many benefits to choosing a used Mercedes-Benz vehicle.

Features of owning a used Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes doesn’t make bad cars. The choice of models and configurations is so huge that with the release of each new model, with the generation update, everything is so different in each configuration that it cannot fit in one post. And if only the brand is indicated in the desire, then you will have to sweat a lot to find “the same model”.

Of course, everyone wants to find a cheap, used, hassle-free car in “like new” condition, preferably not from outbids, but from a grandfather who kept the car in a garage. With a Mercedes of any generation and year, this is impossible. Most of them are killed by their owners. Therefore, classic bodies often suffer from pockets of corrosion.

Any car brand has a certain period of use, after which its normal operation will be difficult. Having bought a too-old Mercedes, you are unlikely to be satisfied with the purchase: most likely, it will only give you additional trouble and expenses. It must be remembered that Mercedes still produces premium cars, so even to buy a used car, you need to have some budget. Therefore, good advice when buying a car is not to chase cheapness but to carefully weigh the price with real characteristics and, possibly, overpay for a better option.

Navigating the changing landscape of commercial vehicle insurance

Facebook Twitter LinkedInReddit Email

In today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, the transportation industry faces numerous challenges, one of which is securing adequate insurance coverage for commercial vehicles.  With the increasing demand for goods and services, coupled with advancements in technology and changing regulatory frameworks, commercial vehicle insurance has become more complex than ever before.

Understanding the Changing Landscape

Evolving Industry Dynamics:

Shifting Regulations

The transportation industry operates within a dynamic regulatory environment that continuously undergoes changes. These changes encompass a wide range of areas, including new safety standards, hours-of-service rules, and environmental regulations.

Adapting to these evolving regulations is not only essential for commercial vehicle operators to maintain compliance but also plays a vital role in ensuring appropriate insurance coverage.

The introduction of new safety standards aims to reduce accidents and improve road safety. This may include requirements for advanced safety features in vehicles, such as collision avoidance systems or lane departure warning systems.

As these regulations come into effect, commercial vehicle operators must stay updated and ensure that their vehicles meet the specified safety standards. Insurance providers take these regulations into account when assessing the risk profiles of commercial vehicles and determining premiums.

The art of recovery: exploring natural methods to enhance driver wellbeing

Facebook Twitter LinkedInReddit Email

In the demanding world of professional driving, the physical and mental health of drivers often takes a toll due to long hours, stressful conditions, and the constant need to stay alert. Recognizing the importance of driver wellbeing, the industry is increasingly exploring natural methods to enhance recovery and promote overall health.

Understanding the Importance of Driver Wellbeing

The Demands of Professional Driving

Professional driving is a challenging occupation that places unique demands on drivers’ physical and mental wellbeing.

Understanding these demands is crucial for recognizing the importance of prioritizing driver health and implementing effective recovery strategies. Some of the key demands of professional driving include:

Long hours on the road: Drivers often spend extended periods behind the wheel, covering long distances and facing the physical strain of sustained concentration and alertness.Irregular sleep patterns: The nature of the job often disrupts drivers’ sleep routines, with irregular work schedules, overnight shifts, and the need to operate during non-standard hours.Sedentary lifestyle: Extended periods of sitting while driving can lead to a sedentary lifestyle, which is associated with various health risks, including weight gain, cardiovascular issues, and musculoskeletal problems.High-stress environments: Professional drivers encounter various stressors, including traffic congestion, tight delivery deadlines, unpredictable road conditions, and interactions with difficult or aggressive motorists. These stressors can impact drivers’ mental and emotional wellbeing.

The Role of Recovery in Driver Wellbeing

Physical Recovery

Physical recovery plays a crucial role in supporting driver wellbeing and optimizing their performance on the road. Here are some key aspects of physical recovery for drivers:

Restoring muscle function and reducing fatigue: The repetitive nature of driving can cause muscle fatigue and discomfort. Engaging in proper recovery techniques such as stretching, massage, and regular breaks can help restore muscle function, reduce fatigue, and minimize the risk of musculoskeletal injuries.Preventing chronic pain and injuries: Prolonged sitting and repetitive motions can lead to chronic pain and musculoskeletal injuries, such as back pain, neck strain, and joint problems.

Implementing ergonomic practices, practising proper posture, and incorporating regular exercise and stretching routines can aid in injury prevention and pain management.

The cash advantage: exploring the perks of selling your house without listing

Facebook Twitter LinkedInReddit Email

When it comes to selling your house, the traditional route of listing it on the market may not always be the best option. In recent years, an alternative method has gained popularity: selling a house for cash.

The Benefits of Selling Your Home for Cash

Selling your house for cash offers numerous benefits that can make the process simpler, faster, and more advantageous for homeowners. Here are some key advantages to consider:

Speed and Convenience

Selling a house for cash provides a swift and convenient transaction, bypassing the typical complexities associated with traditional sales. Some specific benefits in terms of speed and convenience include:

Swift transactions: Selling for cash eliminates the need for lengthy negotiations, inspections, and appraisals commonly associated with traditional sales. With cash buyers ready to make a quick purchase, the closing process can be significantly expedited.Streamlined paperwork: Cash sales often involve less paperwork compared to traditional transactions, reducing the administrative burden for both the seller and the buyer. This streamlined process can save time and alleviate stress, making the overall selling experience more efficient.Avoiding the hassle of showings: Selling for cash means you don’t have to prepare your house for showings, endure open houses, or deal with the inconvenience of having strangers walking through your home. This not only saves time and effort but also provides a higher level of privacy and security for homeowners.

Certainty and Simplification

Selling a house for cash offers greater certainty and simplification compared to traditional sales. Some notable benefits include:

Avoiding financing complications: Traditional sales are often subject to financing issues, such as loan rejections or delays, which can derail the closing process. In cash transactions, the buyer’s immediate access to funds eliminates these complications, providing a more reliable and certain transaction. No contingencies: Cash buyers typically do not require contingencies related to inspections, repairs, or mortgage approval. This removes the potential hurdles and delays associated with contingencies, making the selling process more straightforward and simplified.Reduced risk of deals falling through: Cash sales have a higher chance of closing successfully since the buyer has immediate access to the funds required for the purchase. This reduces the risk of last-minute issues or changing circumstances that could cause traditional deals to fall through.

Cost Savings

Selling a house for cash can result in cost savings for homeowners. Some significant cost-related benefits include:
