The term “stock car” originated in Prohibition era-America, when moonshiners would soup up stock vehicles to maintain a normal appearance but with the ability to outrun authorities. It was inevitable that these cars would end up racing, giving birth to organizations like NASCAR. 1. Max Verstappen

Verstappen is a Red Bull Racing champion who became the 34th F1 World Champion. The only times he didn’t make it in the race was in Melbourne, Silverstone, and Bahrain where both instances were Red Bull’s faulty problems. As of the 2021 championship, the 24-year-old boasted 17 podium finishes and made the team stand at 585 points. 2. Charles Leclerc

Leclerc makes Ferrari a team to watch out for this season. Unlike Verstappen, who has been in pole position three times, Leclerc bests him at seven in 2022. Two times when the car crashed and the other two times when the engine failed.

We can be sure that the PR machine will tell us that about the jobs that will be created and the likely increase in tourism. That goes without saying. Don’t forget that South Africa staged the 2010 World Cup, but that wasn’t over in just three days.

However, I believe that there is a much more compelling reason that can be put forward for staging a South African Grand Prix. From a personal perspective, I’d like to see that happen. I’ve enjoyed a relationship with that beautiful country since 1975 and my wife of 35 years was born and grew up in Cape Town.

The last time South Africa staged an F1 race was 1993 and I was lucky enough to be there as Marketing Director of the Lola BMS Scuderia Italia F1 Team, with our drivers Michele Alboreto and Luca Badoer.

Coulthard enjoyed an impressive Formula One career with 13 Grand Prix victories before helping put Red Bull Racing on the map – including claiming the first ever F1 Grand Prix podium for the team at the Monaco GP in 2006 – and undertaking fun projects after his retirement.
