Where are they now: Ralf Schumacher

Ralf Schumacher is a German former racing driver. He is the younger brother of seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher, and the pair are the only siblings to win Formula 1 races. Let’s see what Ralf is up to these days!

The final chapter of racing

He first drove in Formula 1 with Jordan Grand Prix for the 1997 season. Schumacher moved to the Williams team in 1999, finishing sixth in the Drivers’ Championship that year. He won his first Grand Prix in 2001, en route to fourth place in the Drivers’ Championship, and subsequently won five more races over the course of two years. Schumacher left Williams at the end of 2004 and joined Toyota Racing in 2005. However, his performance throughout 2006 and 2007 resulted in Schumacher leaving Formula 1, as a result of internal pressure.

Ralf’s last season of racing was in 2012 – on 20 October 2011, it was announced that Schumacher would remain at HWA for the 2012 season of Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters and was once again partnered by Green and Paffett who were joined by new signing Christian Vietoris. Schumacher’s season got off well: he clinched consecutive points-scoring finishes in the first two races of the season and managed to secure further finishes in the races held at Brands Hatch and the Red Bull Ring, although Schumacher did not finish in the points-scoring positions. He was forced into retirement at the next race held at the Norisring due to an electrical failure while leading.

I am very pleased that my son David is making his way in motorsport.

However, this marked a turning point in Schumacher’s season as he managed to finish the remaining five races of the season. He managed to secure points finishes in the races held at Zandvoort and the season finale at the Hockenheimring. He also managed to finish the races held at Oschersleben and in Valencia, although he secured no points. Schumacher finished the season 17th in the Drivers’ Championship, with 10 points.

Harley-Davidson maintenance: the whats and hows of motorcycle brakes

There are dozens of motorcycles capable of sub-three-second 0-60 times and most manufacturers have at least one model that tops 200 mph. These are lightweight supersport beasts with engines and chassis stripped directly from one-off racing spec bikes. Even bigger cruisers weighing twice as much have respectable acceleration and most will outdo even the fastest cars.

Bikes like the Triumph Rocket III, Ducati Diavel and the V-Rod from Harley-Davidson are some mouth-watering names. If you’re a sucker for speed that also enjoys a plush ride spiked with some serious style, then the whole current Harley-Davidson lineup will bring you to close-to-illegal road speeds in less than five seconds.

Bringing all that raw power to a controlled stop is just as important. Brakes are the most critical safety component on any vehicle, and on bikes, they’re literal lifesavers. This means faster response times and the shortest and safest braking distances. You’ll be using both front and rear brakes to gradually reduce speed, adjust to changing road conditions, or ease into turns.

Spongy brakes won’t help as they lack feel and compromise braking ability. The same applies with soft brakes with little feedback regardless of how far down you’re on the back brake pedal, or hard on the lever with the front brake. Hence, it’s recommended to replace a soft front brake on Harley Davidson before more serious issues arise.

As the home of British motorsport prepares to welcome record crowds at this weekend’s Grand Prix, new pictures have been released of the luxury residences currently being built just yards from Silverstone’s hallowed tarmac.

Escapade Silverstone is an £80m development of two, three and four-bedroom residences next to the racetrack’s most legendary series of corners – Copse, Maggots, Becketts and Chapel – which Formula 1 drivers approach at a g-force inducing 180mph.

The flagship development, which is due for completion in 2023, features a clubhouse with floor-to-ceiling windows and an 8.5m high roof terrace offering panoramic views across the track that will make it the spectating equivalent of the Royal Box at Wimbledon’s Centre Court, and entertaining space to match the superyachts that gather for Monaco’s Grand Prix.

4 most common causes of motorsports accidents

Generally speaking, motor racing, also known as motorsports, is one of the biggest and most popular spectator sports worldwide. It’s a competitive sporting event involving different kinds of motorized vehicles. It has attracted more passionate drivers and fans, making sports more exciting.

However, despite the fun and excitement, motorsports can be risky and can potentially cause catastrophic accidents. Whether an amateur or a professional, you’ll more likely get involved in an accident if you don’t take the necessary precautions. But it’s important to know that motorsports accidents may happen for several reasons.

Keep reading this article to learn the four most common causes of motorsports accidents.

Negligent Race Car Driver

Generally, motorsports drivers are expected to be aware of the risk associated with car racing. Hence, they certainly know what may happen to them once they’re on the race track. However, when one of the race drivers acts negligently during the sporting event, there’s a high chance an accident is more likely to happen. For example, a race car driver commits negligence if they pursue to race despite knowing their car isn’t in good driving condition. This decision signifies a complete disregard or neglect of their safety and the other drivers for the sake of winning.

And that said, race car drivers should set aside their pride and listen to their mentors instead. They should be responsible enough to know when they can race and when they can’t without compromising everyone’s safety. Doing so can prevent the likelihood of a motorsport accident on the race track.

Verstappen was looking well-placed for a comfortable victory over Sainz at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve when a Safety Car was called on Lap 49 of 70 after Yuki Tsunoda hit the Turn 2 barriers after exiting the pits.

Racing resumed with 16 laps remaining, Verstappen holding off the attacks of the fresher-tyred Sainz to claim his sixth victory of the season, and his 26th overall, as Sainz took his fifth podium of the year – although the Spaniard’s wait for his first victory continues.

Casino turn, Monaco

The streets of Monte Carlo are comprised of 18 narrow corners, with each one having a story behind its name.

The first corner of the circuit is called after a chapel which is found right behind the massive barriers and the display screens. Saint Devote is one of the easier corners of the circuit with enough width as it has a pit lane exit and a run-off area. But don’t be mistaken, the exit can be tricky.

Beau Rivage and Massenet is not a straightforward section of corners as some may believe. Because of the high-speed nature of the corners, there is also a drastic change in altitude for the drivers to cope with which can throw the car off-balance. The Beau Rivage and Maaenet is from the famous opera composer – Jules Massent.

The fourth corner is aptly called Casino Square which is the most famous corner of the entire circuit. The presence of Monaco’s wonderful building – Monte Carlo Casino – is frequented by people from all over the world. The famous gambling and entertainment complex include a casino, the Opera de Monte Carlo and the office of Les ballets de Monte-Carlo.

Of course, not all of us can visit Monte Carlo either to view the thrilling Circuit de Monaco or enjoy some casino action in the grandness of the casino but we can play some entertaining slot and casino games at Fruity King NZ at any time we choose and from anywhere we happen to be as long as there is a good internet connection. Casino Square is also notable for the fact that the circuit has now begun to go downhill.

4 simple steps to breaking in new brake pads and disc rotors

With today’s technology, seeing someone operating a vehicle is already as normal as breathing. It’s even come to a point where people as young as teenagers can drive them. But regardless of how common they are, the risks are never removed from the picture. That’s why vehicles everywhere – be it a mechanical bicycle or a sports car – are designed with countermeasures to tackle these risks head-on. And some of them are brake pads and disc rotors.

What Are Brake Pads And Disc Rotors

Vehicles are created with transportation in mind. For them to go places, they function to move in whichever direction they’re pointed. Naturally, you’ll want them to stop once you’ve reached your destination or something came up on the road. That’s what brake systems are for.

Considering how complex vehicles are designed, it’s already a given for them to contain multiple systems to fulfil a specific task. Since it’s their purpose to stop the machine by command, brake systems are most likely the most crucial part of any vehicle. Thus, they demand the most attention by conducting regular inspections to check if there’s anything that needs to be replaced.

These brake systems mainly consist of brake pads and disc rotors. Brake pads handle most of the work in stopping the vehicle. To make this happen, friction is put into play. Since they’re located on either side of a rotor, they squeeze the rotors once pressurized fluid comes from the driver pressing the brakes. So, with this set-up, it’s safe to say that the rotors provide the contact surface while brake pads force the wheels to slow down to a stop.

How To Break In Newly-bought Brake Pads And Disc Rotors

With the brief overview of how the brake systems work out of the way, there are other matters you need to worry about. Breaking them in (or bedding) is essential, especially if you just had them replaced with new VMAX brakes or other brake manufacturers. However, you’ll find that this procedure isn’t as simple as you’d think.

The coolest and most interesting sponsorship deals in F1 history

Formula 1 has had a long relationship with sponsorship deals. The sport wouldn’t have grown into the huge behemoth that it is today without its teams being able to sell space on their cars for brands to add their logos.

The practice began with Lotus in the 1960s but soon spread right across the paddock. Before then, cars were painted in their national colours. For example, the Ferrari vehicles were painted in their iconic scarlet red, while teams from the UK used British racing green. After the introduction of sponsors, the colour often reflected the branding of the team willing to pay the most.

Over the years, there have been many brands that have come and gone from Formula 1, including major car manufacturers like Toyota and tire suppliers like Bridgestone. Among them, there have been plenty of mundane deals that you’ll likely forget about very quickly. But every now and then, a sponsor appears on a car that really stands out and attracts your attention.

Here are some of the coolest and most interesting of these deals.

Jaguar and Ocean’s Twelve

In the mid-2000s, the British sports car brand Jaguar was one of the teams competing in Formula 1. In addition to their long-term partners with big brands like HSBC, the team struck some short-term sponsorship deals that would last no more than a few Grands Prix.

All reasons why you should purchase off-plan properties in Dubai

Dubai city has quickly become one of the most progressive and upscale cities in the world. It is almost unbelievable that at first, Dubai was a mere oil-based economy.

Currently, the Emirate is a thriving business hub that strives to take advantage of the country’s geographical address and versatility of the population.

Resultantly, the Emirate has gained a spot among the most iconic global commercial sectors. Even though the city is definitely a highly beneficial destination for business purposes, there is something for everyone.

An aspect that has earned the interest of international investors recently is diverse opportunities and flexibility in the real estate market, particularly investments in off-plan projects.

However, for someone who is unaware of this matter, it is natural to wonder what makes purchasing off-plan properties in Dubai so special.

Do race cars use diesel engines?

Motor racing is a thrilling sport for both the competitors and the spectators. Watching cars speeding through a racetrack or being inside the vehicle sends blood pumping. Fuel and engine define the speed and power of most race cars. If you notice, many of them run on gasoline fuel, but surprisingly, some use diesel.

Diesel isn’t the preferred fuel for many race cars because of various reasons. However, this is not always the case. This article will offer a brief explanation of the dissimilarities of the two fuels, their effects on vehicles, and where the diesel engine shines as an option for race cars:

Diesel Vs. Gasoline: The Difference

Both fuel options are by-products of refined crude oil but have different densities and combustion methods. For starters, diesel is thicker compared to gasoline or petrol. Gasoline also ignites faster than diesel. You may have witnessed someone toss a lit match into a gas puddle and watch it come ablaze instantly. Meanwhile, diesel fuel needs to be compressed first and injected before igniting.

Certain vehicles also have engines that only run on a specific fuel type. Larger vehicles, such as buses and trucks, often utilize heavy-duty engines. For an example of one, you can see it here. As mentioned earlier, gasoline ignites fast, so gasoline engines have a spark plug that ignites the fuel. When diesel combusts, it also causes smog that pollutes most urban cities. However, this doesn’t mean gasoline isn’t any better, as it also produces carbon monoxide.
