Having designed championship-winning F1 cars for Williams and McLaren, Newey moved to Red Bull Racing in 2006 under Team Principal Christian Horner and provided the platform for the four consecutive titles in which both German Sebastian Vettel and the team won 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Horner and Newey combined for many Grand Prix victories in the years between 2014 and 2020, then Newey’s RB16B design propelled Dutchman Verstappen to his first Drivers’ title in 2021, and the RB18 car became the dominant force behind the team’s two 2022 titles.

Ferrari has appointed Fred Vasseur as Team Principal, with the Alfa Romeo boss and Sauber Motorsport CEO replacing Mattia Binotto from January 2023.

Binotto, who joined Ferrari as an engine engineer in 1995 before rising to take the helm of F1’s most famous team, resigned last month.

Vasseur – who led Alfa Romeo to sixth in the constructors’ championship this year in what was the team’s best finish for a decade – was Ferrari’s first choice to replace him.

Following weeks of discussions, Vasseur decided to end his six-year tenure at Sauber and join Ferrari in what is one of the biggest – if not the biggest – jobs in motorsport

Sauber Group and Alfa Romeo are delighted to announce the appointment of Andreas Seidl as its new Chief Executive Officer. Seidl will start in his new role in January 2023 and will be tasked with continuing the growth of the group as a whole as Sauber keeps establishing itself as one of the brightest sporting and industrial entities on the market.

Born in Passau, Germany, Andreas Seidl began his motorsport career with BMW’s Formula 1 project, where he also worked as Head of Track Operations at Sauber for several years. As Team Principal at Porsche, Seidl later celebrated several world championships and three overall victories at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans between 2015 and 2017 before becoming Team Principal of the McLaren F1 Team in 2019.

Seidl will take over the CEO position from his predecessor, Frédéric Vasseur; together with the team, Seidl will now work on the appointment of its new Team Principal, which will be communicated in due course.

Russia: Around 2,500 seals found dead in Dagestan

Officials said there was no evidence of foul play, such as getting caught up in fishing nets. Russia According to sea life experts, the seals are often dying from oil leaks, poaching and overfishing.

Roughly 2,500 seals found dead on the Caspian Sea coast in the southern Russian province of Dagestan, officials said Sunday.

The carcasses discovered at various locations in and around Makhachkala, the coastal capital of the republic.

Authorities said it was unclear why the seals washed ashore but that it was likely due to natural causes.

Hours after Russia invaded Ukraine in February, health staff at a children’s hospital in the south started secretly planning how to save the babies.

Russians were suspected of seizing orphan children and sending them to Russia, so staff at the children’s regional hospital in Kherson city began fabricating orphans’ medical records to make it appear like they were too ill to move.

“We deliberately wrote false information that the children were sick and could not be transported,” said Dr. Olga Pilyarska, head of intensive care. “We were scared that (the Russians) would find out … (but) we decided that we would save the children at any cost.”

Throughout the war Russians have been accused of deporting Ukrainian children to Russia or Russian-held territories to raise them as their own. At least 1,000 children were seized from schools and orphanages in the Kherson region during Russia’s eight-month occupation of the area, say local authorities. Their whereabouts are still unknown.

But residents say even more children would have gone missing had it not been for the efforts of some in the community who risked their lives to hide as many children as they could.
