Sauber Technologies and Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN have joined forces with high-performance engineering brand Accelleron, to exchange insight, principles and processes that will support innovation across all three organisations.

Accelleron is the brand name for ABB Turbocharging, a global leader in heavy-duty turbocharging for diesel and gas engines, providing sustainable and reliable power to the marine, energy and rail sectors. The partnership will focus on technical collaboration between Accelleron and Sauber Technologies, while Accelleron also becomes an official partner of Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN in the FIA Formula One World Championship.

Accelleron and Sauber Technologies will work on five joint projects in areas including computational fluid dynamics where aerodynamic expertise developed by Sauber can be used to optimize turbine blade design to improve airflow and separation, further enhancing the efficiency of future turbine designs for Accelleron. Other areas of collaboration include additive manufacturing techniques and advanced material technology used in Formula One which may be adapted for use in turbocharging applications.

Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN is reaching out to a new generation of people with an adventurous spirit as it teams up with AMX. The dairy products’ branding will be visible on the nosecone of the C42, which was presented on Sunday, as well as on the front wheel winglets.

A brand of Yili, a leader in the milk and dairy products sector in China and East Asia, AMX is a premium yoghurt available in sucrose-free varieties designed to appeal to sportspeople, fitness lovers and other people with a taste for adventure.

Camozzi Group, a name with a long and successful track record within the world of Formula One, boasts expertise in a wide range of fields, from additive manufacturing to mechatronics, to production process modelling. With such a varied spectrum of state-of-the-art applications, Camozzi’s know-how makes it a natural match for Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN and Sauber Technologies, the Sauber Group’s entity dedicated to translating the company’s motorsport know-how into the wider world.

The partnership agreement also includes a new talent and knowledge exchange programme, through the creation of a joint development lab involving the Camozzi Research Centre (CRC) in Milan, Italy, and the Sauber Technologies headquarters in Hinwil, Switzerland.

Camozzi branding will be featured on the sidepod air inlets on the team’s C42 cars, driven by Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu, as well as in the team’s garages and on other team assets.

After a week of testing in Barcelona, the C42 was unveiled via images and videos released simultaneously to media and fans all over the world.

The Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN C42 is the first car produced in Hinwil under the budget cap regulations and for the new era of Formula One starting in 2022. Designed by a team led by Technical Director, Jan Monchaux, this car is a radical departure from the past as it embraces the possibilities dictated by the new ground-effect floor, updated aerodynamic package and 18-inch, low profile tyres. The C42, powered by a new and improved Ferrari engine, is a racing machine designed to battle, as the new regulations will allow closer racing and competitive fighting from the front to the rear of the grid.

The livery is a stunning yet subtle nod to the past, recalling historical designs of years past and the heritage of Alfa Romeo and Sauber Motorsport, in the Hinwil team’s 30th year in Formula One.

Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN is joining with JigSpace, the 3D knowledge-sharing platform, to deliver a new, immersive experience for fans at the start of the 2022 season. As part of the partnership, JigSpace launched the world’s first open, user-generated platform with App Clips and webAR, putting an interactive 3D version of the Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN C42 in the hands of fans worldwide.

JigSpace will allow the team’s fans to get up close to the F1 operation, through the simple act of following a QR code link, in order to learn about the innovation and design of the C42 in a 3D, immersive experience. The launch of the App Clips and webAR viewers bring the power and accessibility of Jigs – with their ability to share ideas, information, or knowledge about anything – and means anyone will be able to experience the potential of the metaverse as a way to share knowledge, via JigSpace.

As the team prepares to launch the full livery of the C42 – tomorrow at 9 am CET – fans will be able to see the car emerge in all its glory in the 3D space, with the camouflage livery displayed until then.

After an encouraging 2021 season where Frenchman Gasly and Japanese rookie Tsunoda combined for 142 points and sixth in the constructors’ standings, the pair got back behind the wheel at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli where they undertook the impressive shakedown.

They completed a combined 100km of running around the Italian track in Misano – situated less than an hour from the team’s Faenza base – as both drivers experienced the new 2022 challenger for the very first time.

Alongside the new technical regulations that see a drastic upheaval of the aerodynamic downforce of a Formula 1 car, the drivers also experienced the new 18″ tyres in tricky, damp conditions.

Last week, Verstappen and Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez got a first look at the team’s 2022 car at an official filming day at Silverstone’s International Circuit. Max got behind the wheel of the RB18 for a series of runs as the team gathered promotional footage ahead of the season start in Bahrain next month.

Verstappen said: “We got our first impression of the RB18 at our filming day last week and the car looks good. The rules are very different this year and so it is nice to get your first few laps in and get a feel for it.”

Discussing the upcoming campaign, he said: “I don’t have any aims for the season yet, I just want to rock up to the track and try and do the best I can, like I do every single year. If the car is quick, I am sure we can do a very good job again. I am looking forward to another fun year together with the team and Checo, he is a great guy and we really push each other, which at the end of the day is good for the Team.”
